The Global STEM WOMEN project has developed a comprehensive concept and methodology designed to accelerate the participation of girls and women in STEM fields.
Founded in 2019 in Barcelona, Global STEM WOMEN is an international initiative dedicated to promoting equal opportunities and gender diversity within Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The project works to make women in STEM more visible, inspire new generations to pursue these professions, and contribute to eliminating gender bias across the sector.
The initiative is grounded in the belief that future economic and social progress depends on technological transformation in every area of society. As the demand for STEM professionals continues to rise, Global STEM WOMEN seeks to help meet this challenge by fostering a more inclusive and diverse talent base.
A range of social, cultural, and informational factors continue to discourage young people—particularly girls and women—from choosing STEM careers. The project aims to address these barriers by highlighting that these professions are equally accessible and full of opportunity for everyone.
Recognizing that the challenges faced by society and the planet require all available talent, Global STEM WOMEN emphasizes the importance of diversity as a driver of innovation and a key element in creating sustainable solutions for the future.
The project focuses on four main areas:
Promoting STEM and highlighting new female role models.
Creating a global STEM hub that connects, supports, and strengthens initiatives, programs, and organizations working to increase the participation of girls and women in STEM.
Measuring impact through the STEM WOMEN Annual Report in each country, providing a global perspective and identifying existing gaps.
Developing new actions to address areas that are currently underserved or unexplored, ensuring continuous progress toward equality in STEM.
