The Digital Skills Initiative by the federal government of Austria is dedicated to enhancing basic digital skills in people. In line with this mission we have introduced the initiative Digital Überall (“Digital Everywhere”):
- A nationwide programme offering free workshops tailored to the needs of digital beginners
- Delivered by a variety of adult education providers throughout Austria
- Implemented by the Austrian agency for education and internationalisation (OeAD GmbH).
THE CHALLENGE
The challenge was to reach as much people in Austria as possible, with a special regard to elderly people who are the main target group (since this group needs support in basic digital skills the most).
OUR SOLUTION
To overcome the challenge, two booking systems for the workshops were created: one path through education providers and one path trough municipalities and cities who are then coordinating the workshop with the education providers. This second option was key to reach senior citizens.
OUTCOME
Since the launch of the project in October 2023, over 6.000 workshops have been held with almost 60.000 participants.

The project showed that it is important to adapt the offer according to the feedback an wishes of the target group as well as the stakeholders. In addition to minor adjustments based on ongoing feedback collected through questionnaires, the most significant change was the addition of workshop series to the existing workshops in order to reinforce the skills learned.
